Yosemite National Park
Yosemite National Park
Pounding heart. Breathless. “Not a worship of God but a worship of God’s Creation” John Muir
One photographer said he was tired of the iconic photographs that everyone seems to take. I strongly object. The panoramic photographs are there to be perfectly framed by almost anyone. Whether they be of bridal falls, EL Capitan, Half Dome, Liberty bell or cascading waterfalls with snowcapped rocks and rainbows! Mist or moon rise, fog or footpath winding through an abundance of viewpoints. The reflections on mirror lake, the stream running through the trees, inspire and therefore give anyone a license to capture these memories.
Granted there is ample room to be creative, but when you drive out of a tunnel to Artist Point, you are compelled to stop. Whether it is a selfie with a cell phone or 20 pounds of equipment the landscape gives itself to take the same picture millions before you and hopefully millions afterwards will capture. The light changes, the colors go mute, but even if it’s a black and white shot, others will recognize this place.
Delve a little deeper and even the geology offers classic examples. The glacial formed cliffs. The exfoliation and spalling of the layers to create massive domes. The Roche moutonnee with its smooth side where the glacier slid over it and the rough plucked leeward side is easy to understand.
Pounding heart. Breathless. From the view or the climb, Yosemite is an artist’s inspiration.
