Biscayne National Park
Biscayne National Park
Biscayne is different. It’s a day cruise. 18 kilometers from the National Park Headquarters to Boca Chita. From there its 15.52 kilometers to Miami. This is where it gets interesting. The buildings of Miami appear to be below sea level! Which means, you can see the curvature of the earth. Before you experience that National Park Feeling, you have to get the manmade visual and auditory interference out of your system. Airforce jets, the blast furnaces of the sky overhead. The bustle of Miami. The towers of the nuclear power plant. It’s the reality of Biscayne Bay.
Head out through the channel form park headquarters and smell the hot Salt air. Navigate carefully the shallows of the carbonate shelf with its blue green waters. See the clouds over the distant edge of the gulf stream. The gulf stream powering the warming currents that move north. Truly these are the nurturing waters of civilization, giving life to the east coast, and Europe. Making tuna fishing possible off the coast of Newfoundland and cod fishing in Iceland. Keeping the ports of England ice free.
Focus on the green line of the keys that stretch on the boarder of the bay and the escape from civilization begins. The underwater panoramic with its fish, sea urchins, shells and corals. The overhead landscape of its beaches, flying pelicans, standing ibis and of course, sea gulls.
It’s a “time out” sort of place.
