Badlands National Park
Badlands National Park, South Dakota. Lost in the canyons. Never knowing what might lie around the next corner. Walking along the dry gulch bottom (wadi) that is filled by mud flow with fine sand sediment left behind by the erosion of the surrounding landscape. More dense rock caps forms a protective umbrella, leaving behind a hoodoo looking to tumble down on top of you. Fall colors the grasslands. You climb out of the narrow gully, to turn and see the moonrise, lucky to be there during a full moon. Low clouds on one day create stark black and white images. The next day driving on the road it’s all about brilliant colors of reds, greens and yellows punctuated by a blue sky. Looking across a panoramic view the herds of pronghorns can be seen grazing. Jumping out of the car to examine a formation, you look up and see Big Horn Sheep staring right back at you.
