Aspectus
Aspectus. A view point. A vista. When we travel we insert ourselves into a place. We are the observers of reflected light that shimmers with colors. Our eye sees incredible shades of even those shadows that are muted and the hidden minutiae. We see all the landscape stitched together in a giant panorama. But we can only clip pieces together. The broad spectrum, a mountain, fjord, glaciers, a beach, a lake, ocean or reflections of our surroundings. The details, a discarded reindeer antler, a river, waterfalls, ice pack, growlers, flowers, the folds, stratification in and strata in the rocks are all artifacts that populate the scenery.
It is from the place that we stand that we see this. That we gain a certain aspect, our perspective of place. Regardless we are immersed in an atmosphere, a cumulation of individual details that is our memory. The camera is only a moment of time to allow us to piece together the aspectus.
