San Blas
A nation with in a nation the San Blas indigenous people occupy this land that lays along the northern coast of Panama. The waters surround over 365 islands, barely a few feet above sea level. Set foot on even the smallest of these to enjoy the pristine setting, white sands and abundance of sea life. Yet each island appears to have its owner, rights given through some unwritten code, to harvest and sell the coconut or to charge you for the convenience of a few hours of solitude. A people who live within the boundaries of subsistence, yet not isolated, somehow intertwined with the modern world. Playing and performing their cultural heritage imbedded in their everyday lives for the passing visitor. Taking advantage of the perfect climate that attracts the carefree sailboats that ply the waters. An island for every day of the year.
