Wildlife
Wildlife – Birds were there, we saw two fin whales traveling up and down the fjord. But the real story is the story of the three bears. Everyone traveling in the Northern Arctic hemisphere is warned or should be on the lookout for Polar bears. Imagine kayaking in these deliciously blue waters and a brilliant blue of the arctic sky. Lunch on the golden white granite island surrounded by deep waters. Enjoying the midafternoon with sweeping vistas.
Then out in the distance three white dots. Plenty of water. Plenty of space. Mom and two cubs. A beeline across the water to our tiny isolated island. Bear bangers, didn’t work.
Determination to come not just to our island. But to the exact spot where we were. If you haven’t heard, not only are they excellent swimmers, they are fast swimmers. Barely time to get into our kayaks, on to shore they came. A good look at us and up the hill they went.
Three Bears. Mama bear, Baby Bear and thank goodness, baby bear number two and no Papa bear!
