Curry Island
Curry Island, Nunavut faces the eastern channel of Eclipse sound, sheltering White Bay. Centuries of camping are evidenced by the archeological remnants of sod houses and even abandoned sewing machines. Man's time is but a blink in geological time – the rocks emerging from the depths of the sound, gnarled gneiss with chevron folds 2 plus billion years old, provide fortress like ramparts 1000 feet tall. In the entrance of the fjord a Roche Moutonee stands guard to mark the passage of the glaciers.
While storm surges pound the exposed eastern shores, the inner bay reflects a calm, icebergs float on glass smooth surfaces. Climb to the top to witness the midnight twilight. The last day, delayed by the blowing winds we witness the narwhals racing to some unknown rendezvous.
